96% Palestinians In Gaza Face Extreme Levels Of Hunger, New Report
As Israel continues its genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza, US and Israel continue to block aid from entering. US is effectively sanctioning Gaza during a genocide.
The latest food security assessment in Gaza reveals that 96 percent of the population faces "extreme levels of hunger," with nearly half a million people in catastrophic conditions, according to Anadolu Agency.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, released on Tuesday, indicated that 96 percent of Gaza's population suffers from severe hunger. Additionally, the report noted that more than 37,600 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October last year.
The IPC report highlighted that approximately 2.13 million people across Gaza experienced high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) between May 1 and June 15, including nearly 343,000 people in catastrophic food insecurity (IPC Phase 5).
In response to these findings, the World Food Program emphasized the urgent need for sustained access to all areas of Gaza. "The IPC report on Gaza presents a stark reality of ongoing hunger, revealing that 96 percent of the population is facing acute food insecurity at crisis level or higher (IPC Category 3+), with almost half a million people in catastrophic conditions (IPC Category 5)," the UN agency stated.
The report highlighted that the entire Gaza Strip remains at high risk of famine due to ongoing conflict and restricted humanitarian access.
"While the entire Territory is classified as Emergency (IPC Phase 4), over 495,000 people (22 percent of the population) are still facing catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 5)," stated the IPC, a collaborative initiative involving over 20 partners, including governments, UN agencies, and NGOs.
The report noted that renewed hostilities since the start of Israel's Rafah offensive and repeated displacement continue to undermine people's access to humanitarian assistance, increasing the overall fragility of communities.
Israel, disregarding a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, has faced international condemnation for its ongoing offensive on Gaza following a Hamas attack on October 7 last year.
More than eight months into the Israeli genocide, vast areas of Gaza lie in ruins under a crippling blockade of food, clean water, and medicine.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in its latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its operation in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before it was invaded on May 6.
Gaza Pier Monstrosity And US Sanctions
On 23rd June, Stephen Semler, founder of the Security Policy Reform Institute (SPRI) charted the aid coming into Gaza since October 7th. He noted that since the time the US built the Gaza pier was ready, less aid has entered Gaza. The disparity in aid entering Gaza has grown to a whopping 320%. This means 320% more aid was being provided to Palestinians in Gaza before the godforsaken pier was built has already been damaged twice and now is ready to be dismantled.
The US spent $300 million to build the Lego-like pier off the Gaza shore, in the end providing less than bare minimum aid to starving Palestinians. Insult to injury is that the last task undertaken at the US pier was medical evacuations for Israeli soldiers after the Nuseirat massacre where 300 Palestinians were murdered and 700 more were injured. Over the past many days, several of the 700 injured have succumbed to their injuries due to the lack of basic healthcare in Gaza. Of course, the US pier could not be used to evacuate Palestinians in need.
One thing is clear, starvation is the Israel-US policy for Gaza. This is the Dahiya doctrine with US sanctions added on. The strategy is to starve and kill as many Palestinians in Gaza as possible to force Hamas to give up their end of the deal and release hostages, so Hamas will have no bargaining chips. Most US sanctions are designed to anger the populations against their governments. The examples are plenty from Afghanistan to Syria to North Korea (DPRK). What is shameful in the case of Gaza is that the US is implementing this siege and sanctions over medical and food aid while Israel commits a literal genocide!
I'm not even sure what to say anymore. Russia and Iran -- in terms of government integrity -- look like a democratic utopias compared to the United States of Nazisrael.
I keep seeing articles about how empathetic Biden is🤮 Ffs! Bombing and starving people isn't a sign of empathy. It takes a monster to do what Biden is doing.
