An Israeli historian suggests the diaspora was the consequence, not of the expulsion of the Hebrews from Palestine, but of proselytising across north Africa, southern Europe and the Middle East.
I will preface this by saying I believe in a free Palestine and an end to Zionism.
Engaging in this sort of genetic argument implies that, if they were genetically related, then they'd be justified in colonizing Palestine. Just because I can trace my ancestry back to England doesn't mean I'm justified in going back and stealing some non-ethnically English person's house.
Even if we take this argument as valid, the Khazar hypothesis for Eastern European Jews has been disproven by modern genetic research, which indicates they do probably have Middle Eastern origin.
In fact, there is significant archaeological and linguistic evidence that all Jews originate from the Middle East. I will reiterate that this by no means justifies the brutal oppression of Palestinians.
If you’re referencing the Behar study, it’s important to note that it has been widely discredited. The majority of modern Israelis have little to no ancestral connection to the Levant
Saying it doesn't make it so. If you mean it originated in Eritrea or Ethiopia, that makes sense. But these are white Europeans who are claiming to be of an origin their DNA does not support.
"In 2013 Behar et al. published a genetic study that came up with the conclusion that there isn't genetic evidence for the Khazar origin of Ashkenazi Jews, and instead Ashkenazi Jews are genetically closest to other Jewish groups and non-Jewish Middle Eastern and European populations."
Elhaik, in a 2013 paper, criticized Behar’s conclusions and offered an alternative hypothesis. He argued that modern Ashkenazi Jews are primarily descended from Khazars, a Turkic people from the Caucasus who converted to Judaism in the 8th century, rather than being directly linked to the ancient Israelites of the Levant.
I don't know enough to counter what you are saying. I just don't understand why this is still being argued. I know of no other people claiming to be something that is contested by everyone else. It can't be hatred. There is so much obfuscation of the truth, I don't know what to believe anymore. Can you give me the name of Behar? I looked it up and it came up with The View host.
I just want the truth. Most of Western history is made of lies.
Take a look at the latest studies by Israeli-American geneticist Eran Elhaik, who debunked the Behar report. The Israeli government often funds research and reshapes historical narratives to support claims of connection to the land
Oh yeah; because the “chosen people” are great proselytizers; so very interested in inclusion and spreading the word of their bloodthirsty intolerant deity who commands them to kill, kill, kill!
selective and convenient memory
Israel is more evil then Hamas.
Excellent writing.
Appreciated.

Why do they call themselves Ashkenazi Jews, then?
As mentioned, they're BOTH of European and Middle Eastern descent, and have been outside the Levant for at least 500 years.

Clears so much in just a single read.
